HIGH SCARDUS TRAIL WITH MOUNTAIN EXPERIENCE

All adventure services we offer are conducted with pleasure, but HIGH SCARDUS TRAIL is one of our favorite products, and there are several reasons for that.

The first reason is that we are co-authors of this tourism product, which in 2022, by the British Travel Writers Guild, was declared the best new adventure product in Europe. In collaboration with colleagues from Macedonia, Kosovo, and Albania, as well as with the support of German technical cooperation GIZ, we developed and upgraded this product from 2017 to 2023. It undoubtedly represents a benchmark for modern hiking adventure products and offers life-changing experiences through a carefully planned combination of hiking and mountain experiences, with deep immersion into the life of local communities and exploration of the mystical Balkans.

The second reason is that the High Scardus Trail is probably the most beautiful long-distance hiking trail in Europe, uniquely showcasing the diversity of this part of the Balkans in terms of mountain landscapes, biodiversity, as well as cultural and spiritual richness created over millennia by the intersection of different civilizations. Each of them left its mark, making this area a treasure trove of multiculturalism.

High Scardus Trail consists of 20 hiking stages and 2 transfer stages with a total length of 362 kilometers, stretching across three countries – Macedonia, Kosovo, and Albania, allowing for multiday hikes through remote and rarely explored alpine mountain ranges. The starting point is in Staro Selo, Macedonia, and the endpoint is in Sveti Naum on Lake Ohrid, also in Macedonia. The trail crosses the mountain ranges of Sharr, Korab, Deshat, Jablanica, and Galichica – each more beautiful than the other. The best time to hike the trail is from mid-June to mid-October. The altitude ranges from 700m on the shores of Lake Ohrid to 2,764m, the peak of Golem Korab, the highest in Macedonia and Albania.
