Shar Mountain, Kobilica Peak

The name of Kobilica Peak, soaring majestically at 2528 meters, encapsulates the very essence of its Macedonian dictionary definition. Whether beheld up close during ascent or admired from afar as part of the sprawling Shara Mountain ridge, Kobilica remains a captivating sight. Situated prominently within the heart of Shar Mountain National Park, this peak offers countless opportunities for unforgettable hiking adventures.

Typically, the ascent begins from Vejce village, although alternative routes are possible from Brodec village or via a traverse from Vejce through Kobilitsa and neighboring peaks like Treskavec, Ljubinski Ushi, Shiledze, and Vrtop, finishing in Veshala or Bozovce villages. At the peak’s foothills lies the welcoming Mountain Hut Kobilica, where kind hosts extend traditional warmth with local fare, beverages, and desserts.

Moreover, the proximity of one of Europe’s and Western Balkans most stunning long-distance trails, the High Scardus Trail, further enhances the appeal of this mountainous area.

Whichever route you opt for on this unparalleled hiking odyssey, rest assured it promises an indelible experience—one that may well herald new perspectives on life’s journey.
