Peak Korab, National Park Mavrovo

If we were to describe a mountain as being right at home, in our backyard, it would undoubtedly be Golem Korab peak. For our company, it’s more than just a destination—it’s a second home, deeply ingrained in our identity for numerous reasons. Our summer base in Mavrovo National Park sees us spending a significant portion of the year amidst its breathtaking landscapes. Additionally, our team has played a pivotal role in installing winter markings to Golem Korab peak from the Macedonian side—a testament to our passion for mountaineering and dedication to ensuring safe exploration.

Hiking to Golem Korab peak in Mavrovo National Park offers a truly unique experience. Standing tall at 2764 meters, it reigns as the highest peak in both Macedonia and Albania. Moreover, it serves as the pinnacle of the High Scardus Trail, one of Europe’s most stunning long-distance hiking trails. The trail to the summit from the Macedonian side, marked by poles meticulously placed by our company, is widely regarded as one of the safest routes to such lofty heights. Along the way, hikers encounter rare endemic wildlife, a testament to the region’s ecological significance, recognized by UNESCO as part of the world’s natural heritage.

Yet, beyond its natural wonders, Golem Korab peak holds a treasure trove of stories and legends from the Balkan peoples and the region’s turbulent past. Our tours often include a visit to a local sheep farm, offering our customers the chance to sample the renowned sheep cheese crafted in time-honored tradition—an experience steeped in history and culture.

Ascending Golem Korab peak isn’t just a hiking tour—it’s a photographic safari showcasing the most spectacular vistas in the Balkans. It’s also an educational journey, shedding light on the region’s rare and precious biodiversity, which Mavrovo National Park diligently protects.

When you listen to the tales of history and tradition narrated by our guides, you’ll come to understand why Golem Korab peak truly lives up to its name. If you’re seeking a transformative experience, look no further—your next destination awaits atop Golem Korab peak.
