Peak Velivar, National Park Mavrovo

Velivar Peak stands as a true colossus within Mavrovo National Park. Its stature, towering at 2373 meters, commands attention, but it’s the majestic setting between the mountain massifs of Deshat and Krcin, straddling the border between Macedonia and Albania, that truly sets it apart.

Ascend to the summit from either of two starting points—Bitushe or Žirovnica villages. Both trails offer their own allure, with the Žirovnica route being more challenging and suited for hikers with a higher fitness level. However, we provide the option to elevate the starting point by utilizing 4×4 transportation to the forest belt’s exit.

The High Scardus Trail, a long-distance hiking route, traverses Velivar’s slopes, presenting an opportunity to include the ascent as part of Stage 14 of the trail. Regardless of the chosen route, the hike to the top offers a serene and delightful path, promising not only a memorable hiking experience but also unparalleled photo opportunities.

From panoramic vistas above the Radika River canyon to the rugged massifs of neighboring peaks—from Krčin in the south to Korab in the north—the landscape unfolds in breathtaking splendor.

Following the tour, we often offer an optional upgrade to the basic package—an indulgent tasting of traditional local cuisine in nearby villages—ensuring a truly fulfilling experience for our customers.
